New Article! Election Fever By Etcetera

The growing speculation that the elections might be postponed speaks volumes of someone’s election jitters. But who will it benefit most between Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and President Goodluck Jonathan if the elections are postponed? The Independent National Electoral Commission had four years to prepare for February elections. How come it waited till the 11th hour to start distributing PVCs? Nawa ooo.
People should know that no amount of scheming and manoeuvring can stop Nigerians now. The much clamoured change must be achieved, especially now that the masses have become more politically conscious and every discuss around the country over the past few weeks has been centred on politics. Politicians who have been blinded to the plight of the people should realise that mere rhetoric won’t cut it for them anymore. Nigerians are demanding for a change. The people are not smiling anymore. Whether it is a new regime taking over or a return of the incumbent, whoever takes the seat better know that a better Nigeria is non negotiable anymore.

It is a shame it took us this long to realise the power we have as a people. But it will be the funeral of any politician who’s dumb not to realise that it won’t be business as usual and that their campaign for re-election is by providing the dividends of democracy from the very minute they are sworn into office. I guess if someone told President Jonathan that Buhari is going to have a huge support from the masses, he would have done more to secure his place for another term by providing the basic amenities demanded by the people. Getting re-elected shouldn’t be difficult for any public office holder who has the interest of the people at heart.
Elections are zero-sum affairs. The more the Nigerian people perceive the incumbent as successful the less likely they are to vote for the opposition in the next election. And delivering democratic dividends (not just on billboards or on pages of newspapers), undercuts the whole logic of the opposition’s campaign against any incumbent or the incumbent’s party’s continuation in office.
Is Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State the Director General of Buhari and Akin Ambode’s campaign group. As governor, he is the father of everyone in the state including Jimi Agbaje, Ambode and every other contestant. He shouldn’t be replying or throwing jabs at any contestant no matter the political parties they represent. With Agbaje’s tax issue, the governor should have directed the Lagos State Inland Revenue Service to look into the matter and if Agbaje is found wanting, he should be referred to INEC for appropriate sanctions.
Whoever is in charge of Ambode’s campaign team should be given a raise. A couple of weeks back, a lot of lagosians including myself didn’t know who Ambode is. In fact, I had to call friends in Alausa to inquire about him. But judging from the awareness his campaign has generated in just a few weeks, if the governorship election of Lagos State is decided by that, your guess is as good as mine.
Lagos State is officially looking like one big political photo album or the living room of a wall paper merchant. Every wall or fence in the state is covered with campaign posters of all sort. I thought Lagos State government placed a ban on pasting of posters in the state. Or is the ban meant for only entertainers? Well, now I guess those guys pasting those white tacky A4 size posters with “House-girl or Plumber needed” have gotten all the encouragement they need.
I think Buhari has attended more church services than many Christians in the past weeks. Is he not trying too hard to convince us that he is not a religious fanatic? At this age and time, we should be discouraging sentiments in politics. Using the church for political campaigns is not exactly doing that. One question is, is Buhari or Jonathan going to church to give their lives to Christ and be born again? Should the church be allowed for political campaigns? If a pastor chooses to hire out his church auditorium for campaigns, is the congregation supposed to be included as part of the deal? We attend church on Sundays to hear the unadulterated word of God and not to listen to manifesto recitals.

Did Buhari pull out of the presidential debate for the same reasons given by his party? Well, we are not buying all that gist. I think it is the soldier in Buhari that took that decision. Being a good soldier goes beyond matching to war. It is also knowing when to go to war and when to sit at home. Buhari’s decision was smart indeed and I would have done the same if I was in his position. As weird as it sounds, he doesn’t seem like someone who can beat Jonathan in a debate. I have already pictured Jonathan entering the debate with a confident grin on his face like a kid strolling to receive his report card in front of his parents, knowing he had come first in class. A debate between Jonathan and Buhari would have been like a boxing bout between Mike Tyson and Bash Ali. There’s only one outcome. TKO!

Single teen mother who fell pregnant at 13 says implant would have changed her life

A single mother who fell pregnant at 13 says she wishes she had been given a contraceptive implant when she was 10.
Megan Oakley, now 19, from Portsmouth, spoke out following a report in the MailOnline that revealed children have been given the implant by some NHS Trusts.
Megan, who has a four-year-old son, said on today's This Morning that her life would turned out differently had she been given the treatment.

She said: 'At 13 I didn't have much sex education, I knew briefly about some contraception but all I was taught at school was about personal hygiene.'

Megan started having sex with schoolboy Lucas Cragg, when she was 13. He was 15 at the time but she said he was equally clueless about contraception.
'He was a bit older but we were both so young, we didn't have a clue. We didn't think it would happen to us,' she told presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.
The teenager only realised she was pregnant months later thanks to doing an internet search as she wasn't aware missing a period was a sign.
She explained: 'I started feeling tired. I was so young I didn't understand about period cycles. I only realised when I Googled my symptoms and it came up with pregnant.
'I thought "is this really happening?"'

Megan told presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford she was clueless about sex education and didn't think she would get pregnant when she started having sex with a 15-year-old boyfriend when she was 13

By then she had split up with Lucas but she knew straight away that she wanted to keep the baby.
She nervously told her mother, Helen, 45, who had become a single mother herself when Megan's father had walked out on them when she was a baby.
Megan said: 'She didn't know I had been having sex but when I told her I needed to talk to her she guessed what was up. She has been brilliant and supported me all the way.'
The young mother said it was difficult to carry on at school during and after her pregnancy but she was determined to finish her education.
She said: 'It was really scary, and at 13 you don't know how to deal with people's comments.
'Everyone knew me as girl who was pregnant or the girl with the baby so I did get abusive remarks.
'All eyes were often on me and people were talking and whispering about me. But I stayed and got my GCSEs.'
After a 'traumatic birth' her son, Ashton-Tyler, was born weighing 10lb 6oz.

While Megan loves her son and credits him for making her work harder at school (before he was born she said she often 'bunked off') she thinks other teen pregnancies could be prevented if children had better access to contraception.
She said: 'I'm not saying 10-year-olds should have sex but if they are sexually active they should be offered contraception to prevent teen pregnancies and STDs.'

Megan is now a 'peer educator' and voluntarily visits schools to talk to pupils about contraception and how they can get it.
'Some students don't have clue, it's quite shocking,' she said. 'There should be more education about how they can access contraception and they should have knowledge of where they can go to get it.'
Last week, MailOnline reported how East Lancashire NHS Trust, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, in Liverpool, each gave the contraceptive implant to a 10-year-old during the last five years.
Meanwhile South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, based in Torbay, gave the contraceptive device to a 10 or 11-year-old.
During the last five years, at least 53 12-year-olds were given the implant, as well as a minimum of 281 13-year-olds.
More than 3,000 14-year-olds and at least 6,300 girls aged 15 were also given the device, which releases the hormone progesterone to prevent pregnancy, inserted under the skin in their arms.
A total of 61 NHS Trusts across England admitted they had fitted the implants in minors after a series of Freedom of Information Act requests by MailOnline.

HOW DOES THE IMPLANT WORK?

  • The contraceptive implant is a small flexible tube about 1.5 inches long that is inserted under the skin of women's upper arm by a doctor or nurse
  • The implant stops the release of an egg from the ovary by slowly releasing progestogen into your body. Progestogen thickens the cervical mucus and thins the womb lining, making it harder for sperm to move through the cervix
  • The Nexplanon implant, which is 99 per cent effective, lasts for three years before it must be taken out or replaced. It is offered at most GP surgeries
  • Side effects include headaches, acne, nausea and mood swings

The numbers are likely to be even higher, as dozens of Trusts did not or were unable to provide full figures.
While Megan thinks it is a good idea if it prevents teen pregnancies like hers, others have disagreed. Viewers took to This Morning's Facebook page to debate the issue.
Emma Jones wrote: 'My daughter is 10 and I would never dream of giving this to her. She is a little girl and at that age they don't need to know about this stuff, kids should be allowed to be kids.'
Donna Greenhalgh agreed. She said: 'Seriously why would a 10 year old even be sexually active and which parent in the right mind would even take their 10 year old for the contraceptive? This is just diabolical and disgusting.'
Samantha Johnson added: 'Would rather we taught girls to respect their bodies and their minds and realise sex is not something you just give away! Don't put young girls on the pill!'
But Claire Jones thinks Megan has a point. She said: 'My daughter is 12 and if she thought she was old enough to have sex, then she would be old enough to use contraception, this even applies for kids as young as 10 because, as sad as it, is they are maturing younger now than we ever did.'

My Encounter With Lagos babe

Lagos city!! The city I love and hate at the same time, the smallest state with the highest population in Nigeria. Before now visiting Lagos was never in my mind but due to some issues I need to be there.

Staying in environment can be fun, full of experience yet annoying, life in lagos is hell, i went out yesterday but unfortunately for me rain started and there was no place for me to hide,i was thinking what to do before i saw a female saloon shop,i quickly ran to hide there.
I met 3 people chatting there ,a guy and 2 girls , the guy accompanied his girl friend to make her hair while the other girl was the stylist(the owner of the shop).I was just there minding my business yet listening to their conversations, though i didnt interfare.

Ohhh! Behold, the girlfriend was pleading with the stylist to sleep with her boyfriend, funny enough the girl accepted within minutes

It seems his house is close from there so the guy went with the stylist to DO IT with her,i was sitting waiting for them patiently to come back so i can be sure of what they had gone to do....
I started chatting with the other girl since the other two have left.

Why did you allowed them? I asked her.

She answered like this "That guy is my boyfriend and it is not like we don't love each other but the guy loves me more when i bring babes for him to sleep with, he also does the same for me"

And you called that love? I enquired.

"Yes, to prove that we're not the jealous  type, although, i can't afford to loose him. I so much love him" She said
Does the Stylist knew he is your man? I asked again.

"Not at all but there is no big deal in the act. I do sleep with other guys anywhere & anytime. We can do now if you're ready because  as a Lagos Babe I'm always READY TO DO IT"

I couldn't wait any longer as the rain has already stopped but i collected her cell phone number.. (You know what it means naa?)

Any lagosian here?

Why I Chose To Start A Record Label- Laide Bakare

New mom, Laide Bakare who has become a mom for the 3rd time visited hiptv studio recently where she hinted that she attended New York film academy while away in the States. Laide also used the opportunity to talk about how the academy made her love music, something she was never interested in. Hear her;

“It’s an inspiration from New York film academy. When I was studying film making, I got to appreciate and understand music more than ever. Because I have been in the industry for so long and it has been movies all the way, am not a music person but right there at the New York movie academy I got to study a whole lot about music and I tend to appreciate music. Looking back here in Nigeria, there are a lot of young talent who are willing to showcase what they have and they don’t really have platform for it because most record labels are like cabals it’s difficult to break in so am gonna take up the challenge and establish a record label for upcoming talents and sell them to the whole world”.
