A 51-year-old Ohio man, Clifford Taylor, has been convicted of raping a 5-year-old girl; but he blamed the act on the girl, claiming that she touch his penis in a provocative way, leading him on to rape her.
Taylor, a former research scientist, was given the maximum sentence of 22 years on November 12, the News-Herald reports.
Taylor was accused of molesting his
girlfriend's baby daughter while baby-sitting her sometime between May
and July of last year. The toddler later told her mother what her
boyfriend did to her and the distraught mother reported the issue to the
police. Taylor was convicted on two counts of rape.
But during court proceeding, Taylor put the blame on the little girl for getting raped by him.
Hear him arguing in court:
"The
lie was that I put my penis in her mouth for Pudding Pops. My penis did
get in her mouth, but I didn’t put it in there. She put it in there.
She grabbed me. She was experimenting.
I
was drunk and realized it too late. I did not stop the child. That’s
the part the prosecutor will get me on. She wanted a snack."
The
statement angered the presiding judge, Eugene A. Lucci, who would not
buy the excuse, and promptly sentenced him to a jail term. And to teach
Taylor a lesson for blaming the girl, Judge Lucci added two more years
to his sentence.
