UniJos Shut Down Until Further Notice

The University of Jos has been shut down indefinitely after a protest by students over hike in fees turned violent.

Security officials where later called in today when  the protest continued to calm the situation. But a soldier attached to the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis (STF), instead of calming the situation opened fire on protesters leaving at least 8 students with gun wounds including a blind one.

The University Registrar, Jully Dandam, after a hurriedly convened management meeting, announced the institution will remain closed till further notice.

The school management also ordered all students to vacate the campus before 2 p.m. today as a way of halting the violence and stopping the crisis from spreading to other parts of the state.

None of the students has died, but are presently receiving treatment.
